Can you transport a canoe right side up?
Canoes can be strapped directly to the rack. For added security, we recommend the Canoe Carrier accessory (shown at right) that prevents the canoe from shifting side-to-side during transport.
How do you secure a canoe to rack?
Place foam blocks under the hull or gunwales. Place a cam buckle against the boat. Run the other strap end over the end of the boat, under the roof rack bar, back up over the boat, under the rack bar, and up through the cam buckle. Tighten the strap by pulling down on the loose end.
How do you carry a canoe on a van?
Strap the canoe down across the front and back of the canoe. Hook or tie the straps to the roof rack of the minivan. If you have no roof rack, run the straps down under the minivan and hook or tie the ends to the chassis of the minivan. Most vans have hook holes in the frame just under the door panels.
Can you put a roof rack on a travel trailer?
Most RVs and SUVs come from the factory with roof racks for extra carrying capacity. If yours doesn’t have one, it can probably be added. However, unless your RV already has a reinforced roof adding a roof rack might not be a good idea. Without a reinforced roof any cargo you put on the rack may damage the roof.
Should you transport a canoe upside down?
Kayak cradles are recommended for boats being transported “flat” to lessen chances of deformation from being lashed too tightly to the bars. Rotomolded kayaks can be transported on their edge or upside down (hull up) safely using kayak stackers.
Is canoeing harder than kayaking?
While a canoe is undoubtedly harder to capsize than a kayak — though they’re both pretty stable, honestly — a kayak has the advantage of being able to be righted in the event of a rollover. In general, canoes are wider and more stable than kayaks, but kayaks are faster and easier to maneuver.

Canoe Racks are a must when carrying a canoe on your vehicle. Roof Mounted Canoe Racks REQUIRE that you already have a roof rack system in place, either from the manufacturer of your vehicle, or if your vehicle roof is bare, find a roof rack fit for your specific vehicle.
Can you strap a canoe to a car?
To tie the canoe to the vehicle you’ll want to use four 12-foot straps with cam buckels. Two of the straps will go across the hull of the canoe and secure the canoe to the roof rack. The two remaining straps will secure the two ends of the canoe to the frame or to the bumpers of the vehicle.
